RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: KYLE SANSING

Business Consultant and Author, Jim Collins, is quoted as saying, “Great vision without great people is irrelevant.” We, at RDA Systems, believe that as well which is why we hire “great people” at all levels of our organization.

This month we are excited to recognize Kyle Sansing, the Director of our Client Care Support Team. He works one on one with clients to resolve support issues and leads new client implementations. He also coaches his team on support and software.

Some fun facts about Sansing are as follows: his family and friends describe him as dependable, personable, and funny and his favorite food is Hibachi fried rice. In his own words he describes his personal motto as, “Find joy in everything you choose to do. I have found that if you look for joy in every situation, whether good or bad, you will lead a life filled with opportunity and optimism.”

When asked if he could meet anyone from any time period, Sansing responded, “I would love to speak to my kids in the future when they are adults. They are 5 and 3 now, and I would love to see them as happy and healthy adults!” That “proud papa” and caring attitude filters into his work role as well as he oversees each RDA Client’s needs.

He started at RDA in 2015 after finding a job description for a client care team member on a job board. “I remember spending hours reading through their website, learning about their company and values. Immediately, I knew this was the place I wanted to work! I love the emphasis that RDA puts on our core values,” reflects Sansing. His hard work over the next few years earned him a promotion in 2019, and now he leads the entire department.

His proudest moments at the company are when they come together to help people in need -whether it was someone in the community, an employee or family member, or a charity. There have been several instances where the company donated time or money to help with a variety of difficult situations. Compassion is a core value of RDA Systems, and Sansing is proud to see everyone at the company live through that value in real-time. Another core value is integrity because the team places a high value on being ethical and always doing the right thing.

RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: Riley Davis – Third Generation Family Employee

This month, RDA is spotlighting Riley Davis who is a third-generation family employee. He grew up within the RDA culture, going to conferences with his dad and holding various part-time positions throughout his young adult years. He always enjoyed RDA’s positive work environment and the staff who worked around him.

After graduating with a marketing degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), Riley developed his sales skills and entrepreneurial mindset at Becton Dickinson as a surgical Device Representative with a proven track record of success. He knew at some point there would be an opportunity to join his family’s small business and concentrated his efforts on improving his business acumen and sales knowledge until then.

While at UTC, he played wide receiver and secured three Southern Conference championships. Go Mocs! He met Emily (his future wife) in college as she played Volleyball for UTC before she transferred to the University of Georgia to finish school. They lost touch for several years then reconnected at a mutual friend’s wedding where they rekindled their friendship, and the rest was history! Riley and Emily married in July 2021 and enjoy hiking, sports activities, and discovering local breweries/restaurants on the weekend with friends.

Just recently, in January 2022, Riley accepted a position at RDA as a Sales Consultant. His main responsibilities are to represent RDA at conferences, drive campaigns to create awareness of RDA’s product suites, and meet all the RDA Users. Riley is ecstatic to finally work full-time alongside his father, Dave Davis. As he grows into his new role, Riley looks forward to partnering with his dad and the company leadership team to take their business’s success to new levels of excellence, provide great service for their clients, and continue to build the positive work environment and family culture for which their company is known.

Because Riley has been within the walls of RDA since childhood, he has a unique small business perspective. He can recall several instances where he was proud of the company his family built. Some of those proud moments include the consistent customer support stories and all the personal relationships RDA clients typically develop with RDA staff. He is very proud to work with all of RDA’s great employees.

Riley loves the culture of his family’s business, which ensures that all work and no play is not good for anyone. One of the activities he loves to do outside of work is compete in bicycle races. He’s planning on completing his first Century Ride (100 miles) at some point during 2022. Personally, his friends and family know that when the rubber meets the road, Riley will be there. He has a track record of supporting people in need, especially in tough situations.

One of the skills Riley established that contributes to his business success and life achievements is understanding that “you have two ears, but only one mouth.” According to Riley, listening intently is just as – and many times more important – than speaking. He recognizes that achieving mutual goals happens far more easily when he takes the time to understand someone’s position and find a win-win for everyone.

Riley’s favorite food is the “All Star Special” from Waffle House. If he were granted a wish and could meet anyone from any time period, Riley would pick Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson because he truly appreciates his drive and work ethic. Johnson’s outlook on life also has been inspirational to him. A close second choice, according to Riley, would be Mark Cuban (American entrepreneur television personality, and media proprietor).

Riley’s favorite types of books are mystery novels. He shared that if he could pick a theme for RDA and turn it into a book as a fun story about his company, he would write a tale about all the W2s going missing and dispatching RDA detectives to find the W2 bandit.

Riley’s entrepreneur heart is fully enjoying being a part of his family’s small business succession plan as he continues to grow into more and more responsibility within the company and will for years to come.

RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: Donnica Carter

Donnica Carter learned about RDA Systems in 2015 during a job search. She noticed they were a Christian company, located near her home, and knew instinctively it was the company she would love to work for. She landed a support position in HR, and several years later moved into a senior role over the Human Resources and Payroll Department.

One of the big projects she worked on as head of her department was to create a new process to track insurance for the employees of RDA System’s customers due to required regulations from the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In the beginning, there was some apprehension about how they were going to set it up to remain in compliance with the IRS. However, she and the RDA team got it done. The ACA tracking system is easy to set up and runs well. This is one of her proudest accomplishments so far at RDA.

One of the things she appreciates most at RDA Systems is their family environment and their commitment to maintaining a team culture. When hiring, they always look for people who are a great fit to interact with their clients and RDA co-workers. It’s evident that the people at RDA really care about each other and each other’s lives outside of work.

Donnica describes herself as very outgoing, dependable, and loving. She enjoys eating sushi or any Asian food. Her personal mantra is Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”) because it was one of the first verses she memorized with her grandmother at three-years-old.

Of all the people Donnica would love to meet from any time period, she would choose Oprah. Sitting with her and chatting about life would be a blast. According to Donnica, “Oprah seems so intuitive and is a true inspiration.”

In addition to her role at RDA Systems, Donnica also has an entrepreneurial spirit. She recently started a travel agency and took advantage of her business to go on a trip of a lifetime to Dubai with her husband to celebrate their 11th Anniversary. They love to travel, and last year they went to Egypt for their 10th Anniversary. While in Dubai, they plan on having dinner in the sky, renting a dune buggy to ride around the desert, and relaxing on the beach.

RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: Dawn Brown

Dawn Brown, a relatively new employee with RDA Systems, is truly enjoying her role as Client Care Specialist. Dawn’s primary responsibilities are to teach RDA clients how to use the Accounting and Payroll software systems, and provide support as needed. The biggest thing she’s noticed over the two months she’s been at RDA is how much the company enjoys being a blessing to others and serving them.

Right now, Dawn is currently working on a User Guide project for the Employee Self-Serve (ESS) System to make it even easier for RDA’s clients to navigate the system. Because she is a life-long learner, over the next 10 years Dawn plans on learning as much as possible about software development and implementation. She’s not sure how she’ll use it yet, but everything Dawn learns tends to come in handy when she least expects it.

Dawn’s motto is: “Believe you can do anything and suddenly windows of opportunity open where before only walls existed! Positive thoughts, words, feelings, and beliefs manifest a positive life. By using grateful, positive thoughts and feelings, and by focusing on dreams rather than disappointments, we can change the frequency of our energy, and the law of attraction brings positive things into our lives”.

Italian and Caribbean food are Dawn’s favorites, which is why her dish of choice is Jerk Chicken Pasta. According to Dawn, it’s the perfect blend of both – très magnifique!

Dawn has a 3 ½ year old son named Justice and a 22-year-old son named Jaden. She is a “boy Mom” through and through! Her boys are her whole world, and she tries to spend as much time with them as possible. According to Jaden, his mom can be described in three simple words: Organized, Persistent, and Dedicated. That’s high praise from an adult child.

When asked who Dawn would want to meet from any time period, she selected Jesus Christ because she has so many questions to ask Him. A few key questions she often ponders are: 1) How could You love mankind? 2) Why would You die for sinners like us? 3) Why do You love a person such as me? and 4) Who am I, that You should even take thought of me? She looks forward to getting those answers someday when she meets Jesus in person at the end of her life.

Before that happens, of course, her life continues to be full of personal and professional opportunities to experience joy and fulfillment. One of the experiences Dawn is really looking forward to later this year is attending Jaden’s college graduation where he’ll be receiving two IT degrees (Cybersecurity and Networking with a Cisco Concentration). She’s a proud Mama for sure!

RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: Dave Davis

Dave Davis & wife Mimi are second-generation co-owners of RDA Systems. Before they bought the company from his father, Dave was pursuing his professional career with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Dave had the exciting role of working with the Dornier Medical Technology team. They created the lithotripsy technology that turned invasive kidney and gallstone removal surgeries into outpatient surgeries that revolutionized the medical world.

His journey into building things started long before that when his parents bought him a rundown 1960 Austin Healy 3000. He worked hard to get it running and installing a new top, brakes, clutch, transmission, shocks and other parts. It was his companion all the way to college until he got tired of getting soaked when it rained. Now, 40 years later, he still owns the car and recently revived the engine. Dave is now toying with the idea of embarking on a restoration project, but more for the enjoyment of the restoration project rather than driving the car.

Though his father started RDA Systems back in 1980, Dave did not begin working there full-time until 1990 when they won a contract providing ERP software to Virginia K12 educational agencies. In his tenure with RDA, Dave has worn many hats including Training, Help Desk, Consulting, Design, Testing, Sales, Marketing, Accounting, HR, Management, Custodian, and anything else that may have been needed at the time. He was promoted to President in 1997, and ten years later after a successful succession plan transpired, Dave and his wife Mimi became the proud owners of RDA..

Dave attributes much of the success of RDA to the company culture which began with Dave’s father and his partner, Arnold Guess. RDA has a history of placing ethics and moral principles before profits. Dave and Mimi have continued that success by modeling their business after Jesus’ servant leadership style. According to Dave, “Creating culture is a team effort and is an ongoing endeavor. It starts with setting the company mission, vision and values. Next is hiring the right people. We invest a great deal in identifying people that have a passion to serve. Our leadership team leads by example, demonstrating what great service looks like. We serve one another, our clients, and the community.”

Dave’s history with RDA is full of proud moments, especially the instances where they were first to market providing innovative technologies like graphical user interface (X windows), adopting an open-source software platforms (linux/msql), developing browser-based applications, and offering cloud-based solutions. Dave considers democratizing expensive technology as a core value of RDA. The entire company lives out its core values through adapting, developing, and supporting ERP technology for small local governments and K-12 school districts. Dave and the entire leadership team plan to continue to serve their external community, clients, and vendors, along with their corporate team for generations to come.

On the family front, Dave and Mimi have been married 34 years and are blessed with four adult children: Robert (31), Riley (28, who is married to Emily), Ivy (26), and Rachel (24). Mimi loves animals – especially cats (she has three of them: Stripie, Tiger and Peka). She also loves managing properties. Dave affirms that they are “simple people” who enjoy time at the lake, their church and Bible studies, as well as supporting local restaurants. Dave’s favorite food is chocolate (all kinds!) and he just started eating sushi and is loving it.

When asked how his family and friends would describe Dave in just three words, he decided to ask his kids. They each provided a different snapshot to describe their Dad: Riley used the words patient, thorough, honorable, and leader. Rachel said he was kind, intelligent and brave. Ivy sees her father as hardworking, a teacher, and her supporter. Finally, Robert wrapped up the descriptions with thoughtful, faithful, and passionate. With words like that, it is easy to understand how the RDA culture feels like family because Dave permeates those characteristics wherever he goes.

Dave’s personal mantra comes from Romans 8:28 (“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”). When things go wrong, he does his best to capture his thoughts and rest upon the truth of God’s word – that God has a perfect plan for every outcome. And when asked who he would love to meet from any time period, Dave said it would have to be Jesus so he could tell him “in person” just how much he appreciates Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross for Dave’s sins.

Like most people, Dave and Mimi halted their travel plans during the pandemic challenges. Now that travel has opened up almost everywhere, they plan on taking a few trips they had originally scheduled prior to the shutdown. But until then, Dave continues to enjoy his role at the helm of RDA looking for the next new technology for RDA’s clients and developing the next generation of RDA leadership.

RDA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: ALICE MALONEY-BELL

Alice Maloney-Bell retired in 2006 after a career as a government finance manager in Delaware. Since then, she’s been working a variety of part-time jobs that have included kitchen design and home decorating, among others. One of her more interesting part-time positions was working for a monument company where she sold headstones and also designed the artwork on them. She said it was an honor to collaborate with the surviving family members in the design process to best represent the loved one who passed away.

Alice first became aware of RDA Systems in 2010 when she was hired part-time to do payroll and leave management at a Virginia school district that used RDA’s software. After having that position for many years, the district decided to eliminate her position in 2020 and gave her a one-year notice. When RDA found out about her upcoming transition, they asked her to switch sides – from user to provider – and work for them. Alice said “Yes” and began at RDA Systems in February of 2021 as a part-time Client Care Specialist.

Since then, she has thoroughly enjoyed her role even with the challenges she experienced as she shifted from one side of the desk to the other. When asked about her unique perspective of formerly using RDAs software and now having to be the point person to troubleshoot client problems, Alice stated, “It took a village! I had to learn a whole new programming and technical language to understand the backside of the software system. I’m thankful to RDA’s staff for supporting me through that learning curve.” Teamwork is definitely part of the RDA culture, and she’s very appreciative to not only receive it, but offer it as well.

Two of Alice’s proudest moments over the last two years at RDA are as follows:

1) She was so pleased the first time she was able to take a client ticket and solve it all by herself instead of reaching out to the RDA “village” and

2) When a client told her how much they appreciated her help and patience as she was troubleshooting a client issue. Alice continues to learn more and more about RDA’s software to improve her client service performance. According to Alice, “Great clients deserve great client service!”

When RDA hired Alice, they had no idea that her cat, Beau, would become part of the RDA Systems family. As a remote employee, Alice works from home. Beau inevitably joins Alice’s client service calls and even talks to her clients at times. They love having Beau participate in their conversations with Alice, and even ask where Beau is when he’s not visible. During the last RDA team meeting on Zoom, they were just about to start when everyone arrived. Then someone said, “Wait! Where’s Beau!” They joyfully waited for him to become visible on the screen and then began their meeting.

Outside of her work at RDA, Alice loves to golf and is planning on dusting off her clubs to get back into the game. For fun she enjoys going to the beach, reading historical novels, playing pickleball, and walking. She also looks for a really good cheeseburger joint when she’s out and about since it’s one of her favorite foods. When asked to choose one person from any time period she would love to meet, Alice laughed and said she couldn’t come up with just one because there are so many interesting people on earth that have done so many phenomenal things!

Three words that family or friends would use to describe Alice are helpful, patient and reliable. She has two mottos: “Always be a little kinder than necessary” and ‘Treat others as you would like to be treated.” To be a good client service representative, in addition to having the knowledge base to help clients, Alice knows it’s important to be respectful, kind, patient and understanding.

RDA Systems enjoys having Alice as part of their team and is pleased to include Beau as a bonus! They value her work ethic and can trust her with the care of all the RDA clients.

How long have you worked for RDA Systems?

I’ve worked for RDA Systems for approximately 10 years.

What made you interested in working for RDA Systems?

I was interested in working locally and had a lot of experience in this type of work. Once I got to know the team, I realized that the people here are what make this company special. Everyone here cares so much about their fellow teammates and the clients we serve!

What is your role at RDA Systems?

As a Customer Care Specialist, my job is to help our clients be successful with our software. When clients have questions or issues, they submit a help desk ticket, and I research the problem to help resolve it. I’m also a subject matter expert, so I assist other Customer Care Specialists when they need help, and I work on development testing, training, and other projects.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy helping others. I use my knowledge and experience to help clients with issues and provide advice and best business practices to help them work more efficiently. Our clients are great to work with, and I enjoy helping them!

How do you feel your role contributes to RDA Systems’ mission and vision?

One of RDA Systems’ missions is to serve people, and that is my main purpose here. I understand the important role of serving our clients and making sure they receive the highest level of customer service.

What are your unique strengths that allow you to fulfill your role as well as you do?

I have many years of experience in customer service and payroll. I’m also a certified payroll professional, which gives me the knowledge to help customers understand the processes and suggest improvements.

How do you plan to grow in your role?

With the current changes in Customer Care, we are cross-training more. This will allow me to assist customers in other areas of RDA Systems. As a subject matter expert, I’m also helping other team members, which further broadens my knowledge.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I like to spend time doing fun things with my husband and going places. I enjoy going out with friends, being outside when it’s nice, running on my treadmill, playing guitar, and spending time with my dogs, Sox and Zoey.

What motivates you?

I think it depends on the circumstances, but I consider myself a do-er. When I see something that needs to be accomplished, I like to jump in and help get it done! I love crossing things off my list!

Teresa joined the RDA family a year and a half ago, drawn to our market-leading products and commitment to quality. In her role, she serves as the first point of contact for our Helpdesk, providing essential support to our clients. Whether solving complex problems or guiding clients through solutions, Teresa’s ability to translate challenges into opportunities is nothing short of inspiring. Her broad and in-depth experience in financial management gives her a unique perspective that enriches her role, ensuring clients always receive informed and empathetic care.

RDA Family Spotlight: Chad Stultz

Chad is the Director of Business Development at RDA, responsible for finding out the needs of potential clients and leading the process of presenting the RDA solution to local governments and K12 school systems. He loves meeting new people and helping them find solutions to their struggles.

As part of our new RDA Family Spotlight series, we asked Chad a few questions in order for you to get to know him a little better.

What drew you to RDA originally? And how has RDA changed since?

RDA is a smaller company that feels more like a family. I have worked for bigger corporations and felt like a number, but at RDA you feel like a part of a family. Really the only thing that has changed is the size of the family. We have added some new team members to better serve our clients.

Are you messy or organized?

I am both at the same time. I might have a bunch of sticky notes on my desk and it might look messy to others, but I know where everything is.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Not sure where it came from but… “Always expect the unexpected when you least expect it”.

Favorite travel spot?

Out West. Not the West Coast but the Rocky Mountain area. I have been to the desert areas and mountain areas and love them both. I love to ski and love the outdoors so I feel like no matter what time of year it is, there is always something to do out there.

What do you like to do on your days off?

Family time. Both of my kids are into mountain biking and camping so we are outside a lot. For me personally I like to play golf and I do some competitive shooting.

Where have you lived?

Atlanta GA(born and raised there), North Carolina, California, Japan, Aspen Colorado.

What is the first concert you attended?

Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ concert at an outdoor amphitheater in Atlanta.

What is your favorite meal?

Sushi. I love sushi and all the different flavors in one meal. Also steak. I love a good steak.

Updates for 2025 VA Tax Tables. Standard deduction changed to $8750
Added an undo process for ruined checks in Bank Rec. It is on the Maintenance –> Undo menu in Bank Rec
Created an audit change report for any changes made to the deduction account amounts. You now will click “CHANGE AMOUNT” to change an amount on the Deduction Description Account Maintain Screen
ND PERS reporting changes to not include RHIC. The deduction must currently:

Contain “RETIREMENT” in the deduction type AND
The first 4 characters of the deduction description ID must be “PERS” OR the first 5 must be “PSERS”

Added new Standard Deduction type of DIRECT DRAFT-CH and changes for payroll ACH “705” line
